Baking - Take 1

I finally was able to bake! Woohoo. Despite really wanting to, I wasn't able to get myself to do it until today. But, as stated above, I finally did it!

The fondant went rather well. It was a lot messier than I expected, but it was totally a lot easier than I thought it would be. It is chilling in my fridge as we speak! I'm excited to use it on my cake. Except . . . the cake part didn't actually turn out so well. I decided to get ambitious and made it from scratch. But then I was dumb and didn't cook it enough and thought I did and all that jazz. The point is now I pretty much have a lumpy, undercooked cake in the middle that may or may not be disgusting AND a complete disaster when trying to put the fondant on it. I shall let you know how it goes!

Michael Kenna . . . I love you

So for our photography class, we had to go to three different photo exhibits. One of these was an Exhibit at the Bibliotheque National. It was by some photographer named Michael Kenna who I had never heard of (obviously, since I don't follow photography or anything). So I obviously went. And I fell in love. Not so much with him (how freakish would that be), but with his photography. I LOVE his style and he is incredible. Seriously, I can't even tell you. He is officially my favorite photographer. And that is actually saying something now because I have definitely started appreciating photography more since taking this class.

So when we had our "Mois de la Photo" assignment, where we had to be inspired by an exhibit we saw, it was really a no brainer who I was going to pick as my inspiration. So I took my Kenna-esque photos and posted them. I'm actually quite proud of them. So you should really check them out. :)

The last one's my favorite. Ooh, it just . . . mmm. Love it.

I'm definitely gonna be getting a print of one of his photos as soon I have some money again. I wish I could've gotten one at his exhibit - but I was too worried about getting it home. And I really want me some of this. It sounds incredible. Really, I want that book.

The Baking Bug

Out of nowhere I have this strange, overwhelming desire to bake! During the time when I should be studying, I find myself taking breaks and looking up recipes and whatnot. I have a feeling that when I get back to Utah I am going to go on a cooking - well, more like baking - spree. I already have big plans for my first day back. I'm going to need big plans to fight the jet lag! So while I am waiting for my parents to come home (the day after me), I think I am going to attempt something AWESOME. And if it works out, I will just have to bring it/them to my family party the next day! For those of you who will be at that party, hopefully you won't mind the random surprise. :)
